I am the Managing Director of Prestige Limited. Originally, Derisa and I ran a painting and decorating business. An opportunity to take on some of Housing New Zealand's work arose, and eventually we became their main contractors taking care of the maintenance for all Housing New Zealand properties in the East Coast, Hawke's Bay, Manawatu and Taranaki regions.
I believe in treating people with respect, so at Prestige it doesn't matter whether you are a manager or whether you are working in the yard crew. For me, everyone is treated the same.
I was born and raised here in Hastings, Ngati Kahungunu. I am a Director of Prestige along with my husband. My role in the company is looking after our large administration team, making sure that processes and procedures have been followed.
When Lyndon and I first started, I would go out and scrape the houses, sand, and help paint. I did whatever I had to do. Sitting up late at night doing book work and wages was really full on. We always try and make the best decisions for the company, because what's best for the company is going to help all of our staff that work for us, and that has a flow on affect taking care of their whanau's.
